The airline industry is important for the global economy. Airports, in particular hub airports, are the backbone of air transportation. Efficient landing and departure procedures as well as optimized ground processes are key factors that increase the throughput of an airport. Operations research techniques are important to model, optimize and evaluate such systems. The special issue aims to bring together contributions developing methodology and applications to the field of airport operations management. Papers can address but are not confined to the following topics:

  • Baggage and freight handling

  • Passenger control

  • Efficient landing and arrival approaches

  • Ground handling management

  • Optimized take off and departure methods

  • Gate assignment and check-in counter assignment

  • Security and screening processes

  • Turnaround process management

  • Intermodal transport connection

  • Green airport operations management

  • Robust planning and disruption management

To prepare their manuscript, authors are asked to closely follow the “Guide for Authors” of Computers and Operation Research. Manuscripts will be refereed according to the standards of the Journal. Authors should submit their paper via the EEShttp://www.ees.elsevier.com/cor/and select “Special Issue: Airport Operations Management” when asked to indicate the “Article Type” in the submission process. Submitted papers should not have been previously published nor be currently under consideration for publication elsewhere.
